This guide walks Cardiff by neighbourhood: City Road and Roath; City centre and Cardiff Bay; Canton, Pontcanna and the west; Wales beyond Cardiff. Counts, hygiene shares and postcode clusters come from our directory; the map below is seeded on the city centre, and each neighbourhood links to the restaurants we list there.
City Road and Roath
City Road in Roath is Cardiff's international food street and has the city's Turkish grills, doner counters and a bakery or two, serving students and residents late into the night.
City centre and Cardiff Bay
The centre has sit-down grills and meze restaurants around St Mary Street and the arcades; Cardiff Bay has one or two aimed at visitors.
Canton, Pontcanna and the west
Cowbridge Road and Pontcanna, dense with independent restaurants, have a Turkish grill or two and room for more; the western suburbs have none.
Wales beyond Cardiff
Swansea, a city of a quarter of a million, has only a couple of dedicated Turkish restaurants and rising demand; Newport and the Valleys are takeaway markets. Search volumes for Welsh councils are partly estimated, so treat scores with some caution.
