Green Lanes, Harringay
The mile of Green Lanes between Manor House and Turnpike Lane in N4 and N8 is the centre of the UK's Turkish food economy: ocakbaşı grill houses side by side, kahvaltı houses with Sunday queues, bakeries, patisseries, künefe shops, and the supermarkets and butchers that supply all of them. Prices are the keenest in London because the customers are Turkish and will walk next door. The grills here set the standard the rest of the country follows.
Turnpike Lane and Wood Green
N8 and N22 north of the Green Lanes strip have a second cluster of grills, pide houses and cafés, less polished and cheaper, serving the Kurdish and Turkish residents of Wood Green and Hornsey.
Tottenham High Road
N17 and N15 along the High Road have fourteen restaurants each in our count: kebab houses, grills and bakeries serving a working neighbourhood, with several of the borough's best-value mixed grills. Hygiene is strong across the borough, with 21 of 29 rated restaurants on a 5.
The thin end: Muswell Hill and Crouch End
The affluent west of the borough has a handful of Turkish restaurants and no cluster. For a new opening in Haringey, a regional cuisine, a bakery-café or a premium meze room in Crouch End is the only angle that is not already taken three times over on Green Lanes.
